Who is responsible for your data
Applidex runs applidex.com and is the controller of the personal data described here under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). Contact us at [email protected].
If you just browse
You can read every public page without an account. Like any website, our server records each request (your IP address, the page, the time and your browser's description of itself) to keep the site running and secure, for example to block automated attacks. Server logs are deleted after 14 days. Searches are kept as the words typed, without anything that identifies you, so we can see which models and codes people look for.
If you create an account
- Your account: username, email address and your password, which is stored only as a secure hash that we cannot read.
- Your settings: display name, theme and whether you want update emails.
- Your appliances: the models you save, with any nickname, purchase date, serial number and notes you choose to add. These are private to you.
- Reports you send us about errors on a page, with your email if you give it.
We use this data to run your account and show you your appliances. We never sell it or share it for marketing.
Our legal reasons
- To provide the service you signed up for (contract): your account and saved appliances.
- Legitimate interests: keeping the site secure, preventing abuse and understanding which pages are useful, in ways that do not identify you.
- Consent: optional emails, which you can switch off in Settings at any time, and analytics cookies.
Cookies
- sessionid: keeps you signed in. Set when you log in.
- csrftoken: protects forms such as log in and sign up from forgery.
- ax_theme: remembers the theme you picked. Set only if you change it.
- ax_consent: remembers your choice about analytics, for six months.
Analytics. No analytics cookies are set at present. If we add them, this page and the cookie bar will say so first and you will be able to refuse.
Advertising. The site shows no adverts at present. If we add them, this page will say so first.
Other services
- Manufacturer links take you to the manufacturer's site, which has its own privacy policy and cookies.
- Retailer links for parts take you to those sites, which have their own policies. Some of these links earn us a commission; the retailer may know you came from here.
- Hosting: the site and its database run on a server we rent in the EU.
- Email: when we email you, for example to confirm your address, the message goes through an email delivery provider acting on our behalf.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept while your account is open. When you delete your account, your profile and saved appliances are deleted straight away. Any copy held in a server backup is deleted when that backup expires. Error reports are kept for two years so we can show what was corrected.
Your rights
You can see, correct or delete your data. You can change your details or delete your account yourself in Settings. You can also ask for a copy of your data, object to how we use it or ask us to restrict it by emailing [email protected]. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Applidex is not aimed at children, and you must be 13 or older to create an account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so on this page and, for members, by email.
